Richard Kennedy for Shawnee

Since announcing my candidacy for a seat on the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, representing the Shawnee District, I have been encouraged and humbled by the response from the community. I also realize that this will be a very competitive race, so I am asking for your support – your time, your donations, your knowledge and passion.

In June, I posted on my campaign website my thoughts on how we can help local businesses recover during and following the pandemic. As the former CEO of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber, I understand the importance of a thriving business environment – successful businesses and good-paying jobs – for the families of Frederick County.

As the fall school year approaches, it is equally critical that we address the challenges posed by the pandemic for the public education system. Having met with teachers, parents, and administrators, I believe that we all share the same vision – in-person instruction for our children as soon as possible, without risking the health of families and teachers. It is a difficult balance, but I endorse the hybrid model developed by the Frederick County Public School System and call on the Board of Supervisors to support our public health and educational leaders. There is no ideal solution, but politics must take a back seat.

And in November, I will need your vote. Voting in Virginia is as easy as it is important. You can start by going to to see if your voter registration is current. If it is not, follow the instructions to register. Then go to and sign up to receive an absentee ballot. The whole process takes less than three minutes. Voting is patriotic…and in 2020, it is one of the most important things we can do for our families, our neighbors, and our community.
